Among the nearly 5,000 participants in the New Jersey Sharing Network’s 2nd Annual Share NJ Race to Save Lives June 10 were 11 stalwart William H. Connolly & Co. office staff members –TEAM WHC.
TEAM WHC walked the 5K course in one hour and four minutes and raised more than $1200, exceeding the team goal.
Vice President and Director of Claims and Risk Management Nancy Peet R.N., who served as team captain, was thrilled with the support and participation. “We had a ball together – we walked as a team and showed the kind of support for each other that we have both in and out of the office.”
Nancy said the walk reminded team members of the value of organ donations. “Donor families walked with recipient families,” she said. “It was very moving.” A member of the William H. Connolly & Co. family had been a live donor and shared her story- a powerful motivator for TEAM WHC.
TEAM WHC also won first place for the photo submitted for Organ Awareness Day in April. All team members and other staff members have become registered organ donors.
The race raised $560,000 to provide education, outreach research and donor family support for NJ Sharing Network. The non-profit, federally-certified, state-approved organ procurement organization is responsible for the recovery of organ and tissue transplants for the 4,700 New Jersey residents currently awaiting transplantation. NJSharing Network also supports transplant recipients and donor families and educates the public about the benefits of donation and transplantation.
Donations to the Share NJ Race to Save Lives can still be made at the website ShareNJ5K.org until July 31.
